About Me
About
I’m Ben, a mechanical engineer with a BEng and more than 10 years of industry experience across industrial, marine, and infrastructure projects. My work has covered design, project management, estimating, tendering, quality assurance, and technical engineering, so I understand a job from the first sketch through to the finished part and what it takes to deliver it on time and to spec.
I’ve worked alongside fabrication shops, welders, and site teams, and I’ve seen how a design that looks right on screen can be hard to build. That shapes how I work today. I design with the workshop in mind, using readily available sections and sensible tolerances, so parts are quicker to source, cheaper to make, and less likely to need rework.
I’m also keen on the newer manufacturing tools that are changing how parts get made. Additive manufacturing, 3D modelling, and digital drafting let us test ideas quickly, make replacement parts that are no longer supplied, and produce small runs without the cost of tooling. I use these alongside traditional fabrication, and I’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your job.
Whether you have a rough idea, a worn component, or a drawing that needs to go to a fabricator, I’d be glad to help.
Beyond engineering
Foiling is my otherl passion, and it started where many people’s does: windsurfing in my youth. Over the years it has grown into everything around the sport, multiple disciplines from wing to surf. I still go for the odd windsurf when the wind cranking though!
My engineering background has naturally crossed over into the hobby. I design my own foils and components, 3D print prototypes and moulds, and build carbon layups myself. Testing an idea on the water and then refining it in CAD or on the printer is a loop I really enjoy. It’s also where I’ve learned the most about how design choices, materials, and manufacturing methods affect performance in the real world
